In North Carolina, we have been under and remain under the blackout period from May 1 and July 31. Wildlife agents, animal removal companies and homeowners are not legally able to remove, disturb or evict bats during this protective period due to the presence of young.
While we do not physically remove or harm bats ever, The good news is that in 4 days we will be able to begin evicting them again. So now is a great time to call and schedule a bat inspection so that we may begin the process shortly after the Aug 1st green light.
Eviction is the process of taking advantage of an animal's need to exit to procure food and water and then preventing its ability to gain re-entry without trapping them or causing harm.
Please do not misunderstand, if a bat is present or seen in your living space for example on the curtain in your living room, you absolutely can and should call animal control or a wildlife removal company.
Top signs that you may have a bat colony in or around your home:
1. You see bats at sunrise or sunset flying out of your attic, gable vent or roof.
2. Bat Droppings / guano on roof, ledges, window sills or gable vents.
3. A strong smell of ammonia or urine often noticeable in the attic.
4. Squeaky / chirping or scratching sounds.
5. Brown or dark oily stains at entry points and exits.
